FBI: North Korea Stole $6 Billion in Virtual Assets from Binance

news.liga.net (Ukrainian) —

The FBI officially accused North Korea of stealing over $6 billion in virtual assets from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, as announced in a press release on October 31. The hackers are converting the stolen assets primarily into Ethereum and may attempt to launder funds through decentralized finance services and instant exchange platforms. The FBI, along with the US Secret Service and IRS-CI, urged blockchain operators and crypto companies to block transactions linked to the identified addresses. The attack lasted about 20 minutes and involved the hacking of a laptop belonging to a Binance engineer. This theft surpassed the previous record of $1.5 billion stolen from Bybit in 2025, and Binance began returning assets to affected users on October 30. The elite North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor may be behind the attack.
