FBI Links Binance's $6.3 Billion Crypto Theft to North Korean Hackers
The FBI has accused North Korea of orchestrating a $6.3 billion cryptocurrency theft from exchange Binance on or around October 29, 2026, labeling the state-sponsored hacking activity "TraderTraitor." Binance co-CEO Richard Teng described the incident as a "complex attack" where hackers accessed online wallets. The FBI stated TraderTraitor actors are converting stolen assets into Ethereum, expecting further laundering through DeFi services and instant swap platforms. TraderTraitor, linked to the Lazarus Group, has conducted cyberattacks since 2020. Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals during its investigation, has covered about 90% of the stolen amount, and pledged to cover all losses from company funds.
