FBI Links North Korea to $6.3 Billion Binance Crypto Theft

lefigaro.fr (French) —

The FBI has accused North Korea of stealing $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from exchange platform Binance, in a hack occurring around October 29, 2026. The agency identified the North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor as responsible for the record theft. Investigators stated the stolen funds are being converted into Ether, with plans to launder them through decentralized finance (DeFi) services and instant exchanges. The FBI released a list of about 500 Ethereum addresses used for laundering and urged crypto platforms to block related transactions. Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange by volume, claims 335 million users. The FBI's public warning aims to disrupt the laundering process and prevent the stolen assets from being further concealed.
