FBI links North Korea to $6.3 billion Binance crypto heist

di.se (Swedish) —

The FBI has attributed a massive cyberattack on cryptocurrency exchange Binance to North Korean hackers, with approximately $6.3 billion in assets stolen. Binance has begun gradually resuming withdrawals on Sunday after temporarily freezing them for security reasons. Binance stated it has covered 90 percent of the losses so far and aims to fully address the financial impact through buybacks funded by its own capital and insurance. The FBI identified the North Korean hacking unit Trader Traitor as responsible for the attack. The breach may be linked to a laptop used by a software engineer connected to the company, according to Binance. The same group was also named by crypto intelligence firm TRM Labs on Friday.
