FBI Links Binance Hack to North Korea

obozrevatel.com (Ukrainian) —

The FBI has stated that North Korea is responsible for the hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, with over $6 billion in virtual assets stolen. The announcement was made on the FBI's website on October 31. The FBI, alongside the US Secret Service and IRS-CI, has designated the activity as TraderTraitor. Perpetrators are converting stolen assets primarily into Ethereum, with plans to launder funds through DeFi and instant exchange services. The agencies have urged private sector entities to block transactions from associated addresses. The hack, initially reported as a $5 billion theft across five blockchains, has been revised to $6.36 billion, making it the largest in history. The North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor, also known as Lazarus Group, is suspected of being behind the attack.
