North Korean hackers steal $1.4B in Bitcoin from Binance, surpassing Tesla's holdings

news.yahoo.co.jp (Japanese) —

North Korean-linked hackers stole 18,270 bitcoins from Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, valued at approximately $1.4 billion, surpassing Tesla's holdings and tripling North Korea's annual export revenue. The stolen bitcoins exceed Tesla's 11,509 coins by 59% and are nearly double El Salvador's government holdings of 7,820. The total theft, including Ethereum and stablecoins, reaches about $6.3 billion, making it the largest single crypto hack ever, over four times the Bybit heist. The FBI identified North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor as responsible, marking the first official attribution. Binance has recovered or frozen about $3 billion and is using its own funds to cover customer losses while investigating the breach.
