FBI links North Korean hackers to $6bn Binance crypto theft
The FBI has accused North Korean state-sponsored hackers of stealing over $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, the world's largest exchange, in an attack that occurred around October 29. The FBI linked the theft to a hacking group known as TraderTraitor, warning that stolen funds are being converted into Ethereum to launder them. The agency urged crypto platforms, including THORNode operators and DeFi services, to block transactions from wallet addresses connected to the hackers. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao thanked US law enforcement for helping track and freeze assets, while Binance pledged to cover the affected funds. The incident highlights ongoing challenges in tracing stolen digital assets across blockchain networks.
