Binance replaces 90% of $6.3 billion stolen in hack FBI links to North Korea
Binance said Saturday it replaced 90 percent of the $6.3 billion stolen in a record hack, using company funds to buy new tokens, with the FBI blaming North Korea's TraderTraitor unit. The remaining 10 percent involves less liquid tokens that may take longer to purchase, co-CEO Richard Teng said, adding users will not bear the financial impact. The FBI observed the attackers converting assets into ethereum and expects further laundering. Binance halted withdrawals after the breach, which involved a compromised laptop and evidence-deleting malware, but plans to reopen them Sunday. It set aside $6.34 billion internally, drawing from its SAFU reserve, Futures Insurance Fund, and corporate treasury.
