FBI Links $6B Binance Theft to North Korean Hackers
The FBI has stated that North Korea is responsible for the theft of over $6 billion in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange Binance, attributing the attack to hacker activity dubbed "TraderTraitor." The stolen funds are being transferred primarily in Ethereum, with investigators believing the attackers will attempt to launder assets through decentralized finance services and instant crypto exchange platforms. The FBI has urged blockchain operators and exchanges to block transactions from published addresses. Binance previously reported the hack with losses estimated at $6.3 billion, of which about $3 billion was frozen, and promised user compensation. The exchange's internal probe suggested a DevOps engineer's laptop compromise, though no evidence of private key leaks was found.
