FBI accuses North Korea of $6.3 billion Binance cryptocurrency theft
The FBI has formally accused North Korea of orchestrating the theft of $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, the world's largest exchange, around October 29, 2026, calling it the largest hack of its kind. US investigators identified the North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor as responsible and stated the stolen funds are being converted into Ether for laundering through decentralized finance services and instant exchanges. The FBI released roughly 500 Ethereum addresses linked to the laundering and urged platforms to block related transactions. President Donald Trump expressed doubt about Pyongyang's involvement, saying "we don't know" if North Korea was behind it. The amount is four times larger than TraderTraitor's previous $1.5 billion ByBit theft in February 2025, highlighting North Korea's illicit revenue generation amid international sanctions.
