FBI Links Binance’s $6.3 Billion Crypto Heist to North Korean Hackers

protothema.gr (Greek) —

The FBI has attributed the record $6.3 billion cryptocurrency theft from exchange Binance to North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor, marking the largest digital asset heist ever recorded. Binance has replenished 90% of the stolen funds and pledged to cover the remainder. The attack occurred on October 29, affecting ten blockchain networks, with hackers converting funds into Ethereum to obscure tracking. US authorities, including the Secret Service and IRS, are investigating, while Binance says the breach began via a compromised employee laptop. Binance has committed $6.34 billion from corporate reserves and insurance funds to cover losses, with withdrawals resuming November 1. The group previously stole $1.5 billion from Bybit, with North Korea allegedly using such funds for state programs.
