Binance resumes withdrawals after record $6.3 billion crypto theft, starting with Bitcoin, Ether, Dogecoin
Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, will resume withdrawals in phases starting Sunday after a record $6.3 billion digital currency theft, beginning with Bitcoin, Ether, and Dogecoin. The company stated it has covered 95 percent of the stolen amount, with the remaining five percent consisting of less liquid assets that may take longer to replace. Binance reportedly set aside $6.34 billion of its own funds to cover the losses. The FBI has attributed the attack to a North Korean state-sponsored hacking group called "TraderTraitor," noting members converted stolen assets into Ether. The agency expects further money laundering, while North Korea has not yet responded to the allegations.
