Binance covers 90% of assets stolen in record $6.3 billion hack
Binance has announced it has covered 90 percent of assets stolen in a record cyberattack that saw approximately $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency disappear. The world's largest crypto exchange is committed to reimbursing the remaining ten percent. The exchange temporarily halted user withdrawals after the Thursday breach but began gradually restoring services on Sunday. The remaining assets are less liquid and harder to acquire in required quantities, according to a company statement on X. Binance co-leader Richard Teng said users will face no financial consequences from the incident. The FBI has attributed the attack to North Korea's Lazarus Group, also known as TraderTraitor. The hack, which involved a compromised engineer's laptop, surpasses the 2025 Bybit breach of around $1.3 billion, which was also blamed on North Korea.
