Binance outflows stabilize as exchange resumes after $6.3 billion heist
Binance customers withdrew $3.64 billion, or 2.1% of its assets, as the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange resumed service after a security breach linked to North Korea saw $6.3 billion stolen last week, though the exchange said outflows were stabilising. Bitcoin recovered slightly to trade above $78,000 on Monday after hitting a six-week low on Friday, while ether also rebounded to $2,287. Binance said it had covered 95% of stolen assets, and stablecoin market capitalisations have dropped about $1.2 billion since Friday, with spot bitcoin ETFs shedding $643 million on Friday. The FBI attributed the attack to North Korean state-sponsored unit TraderTrader, though President Donald Trump said it remained unclear if Pyongyang was involved. Binance is rolling out withdrawals in phases, prioritising user demand, as analysts noted the heist may be the world's largest financial robbery ever.
