FBI links Binance crypto heist to North Korean hackers

handelsblatt.com (German) —

The FBI has attributed the largest digital heist in history, targeting cryptocurrency exchange Binance, to North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor, with losses exceeding six billion dollars. Binance has temporarily suspended all deposits and withdrawals but confirmed it will cover 90 percent of stolen funds through buybacks, stating users will not bear financial losses. Withdrawals are expected to resume Sunday. The attack moved most of the 6.36 billion dollars within 20 minutes, surpassing the previous record of 1.5 billion dollars stolen from Bybit in early 2025, also linked to the same group.
