FBI Blames North Korea for $6.3 Billion Binance Hack
The FBI has accused North Korea of stealing over $6 billion in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange Binance around October 29, 2026, attributing the unprecedented heist to the hacker group TraderTraitor. US investigators said the hackers are converting the stolen funds into Ether and laundering them through decentralized finance services and instant exchanges. The FBI released about 500 suspect Ethereum addresses and urged platforms to block related transactions, while President Donald Trump expressed doubt about Pyongyang's involvement. The theft is four times larger than TraderTraitor's previous record $1.5 billion ByBit hack in February 2025. Binance, which suspended withdrawals, said it has replenished 90% of stolen assets and assured customers they will not suffer losses.
