FBI Links Binance Hack to North Korea
The FBI has stated that North Korea is responsible for the October 29, 2026, hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, which resulted in the theft of over $6 billion. The agency classified the attack as part of the TraderTraitor cyber activity. Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, has promised full compensation to users and reported covering 90% of stolen funds by Saturday. The FBI, working with the Secret Service and IRS, said hackers are converting assets primarily into Ethereum and expects laundering to follow. North Korea has denied involvement, though it was previously blamed for a $1.5 billion Bybit hack last year. Blockchain analysts TRM Labs and Chainalysis also linked the Binance attack to state-sponsored hackers.
