Putin to attend APEC summit with Xi, skip G20 meeting with Trump

Citing sources close to the Kremlin, Bloomberg reports this would be Putin's first in-person APEC attendance since 2017. Russian officials have discussed a possible trilateral meeting with Xi and Trump on the summit's sidelines, though Putin reportedly avoids multilateral forums due to risks of confrontation with Ukraine's Western allies. The APEC summit would provide Putin his most prominent international platform since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Separately, Xi is scheduled to visit Washington for talks with Trump from September 23-25, amid ongoing speculation about the Chinese leader's health after he missed a BRICS dinner.
