Ukraine and Russia trade refinery strikes despite Trump plea

Ukraine and Russia have launched mutual attacks on each other's oil refineries, despite a reported request from US President Donald Trump for Kyiv to spare Russian refineries. The Ukrainian military said it struck refineries in the Russian cities of Ufa and Samara, causing fires and one death, while Russia reported an attack on a refinery in Ukraine's Poltava region. Trump had asked President Volodymyr Zelensky to halt such strikes, citing concerns over rising diesel prices, according to the Financial Times. Zelensky suggested Ukraine is open to stopping refinery attacks if Russia ceases strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and food exports. Russian attacks on Ukrainian industrial sites have left around 100,000 residents without power in the Chernihiv region.
