Erdogan Heads to UN General Assembly for 16th Address in New York

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in New York to address the 81st United Nations General Assembly for the 16th time, with his speech scheduled for September 22. He is expected to focus on Israel's actions in Gaza and Palestinian statehood. Erdogan arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport with a large delegation including several ministers and intelligence officials, then traveled to the Turkish House (Turkevi) in New York. He will speak on the first day of the high-level week, expected to be fourth in the speaking order. The president has used previous UN addresses to advocate for reforming the UN Security Council, coining the phrase "The world is bigger than five." He is also scheduled to speak at a UN Secretary-General climate event on September 23.
