Ukraine businesses warned: data center strikes pose top risk

Russian strikes on Kyiv data centers should not cause mass loss of critical data if companies use backups, according to MiroHost founder Oleksandr Olshanskyi. He called the lack of backups on the fifth year of war "close to a crime." Olshanskyi stated modern cloud technology allows storing information in multiple locations, citing Google's three-copy system and his own company's two-to-three copies. Critical data should be duplicated several times, including an offline backup copy, so physical destruction of one data center does not mean automatic data loss. The strikes damaged data centers hosting equipment for UTELS, "Pavutyna," Crazy Network, CityHost.UA, MiroHost, and others, causing internet outages in Vinnytsia, Kyiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia targets data centers to disrupt air raid warning systems.
