Drone attack halts operations at Russia's Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery

reuters.com [$] —

A drone attack damaged Russia's Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, forcing it to temporarily suspend operations, Governor Yuri Slyusar said on Friday. Russian air defence destroyed about 50 drones over the Rostov region overnight. The strike follows discussions at the United Nations in New York on a potential energy-related ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy warned Moscow that Ukraine would strike back if no truce on energy assets is agreed before winter. The Novoshakhtinsk refinery has an annual capacity of 5 million metric tons of oil, mainly for export. Ukraine recently struck two major Russian oil refineries in Moscow and Yaroslavl.
