US Bill Seeks to Block Trump-Putin Diesel Deal and Ban Energy Investments
A bipartisan bill introduced in the US House of Representatives seeks to block President Donald Trump's agreement with Vladimir Putin on Russian diesel fuel supplies, aiming to cancel sanctions exemptions and ban American investments in Russian energy. The legislation, titled "On Prohibiting Corrupt Oil Deals with Russia," was introduced by leading Democrat Gregory Meeks and would revoke Treasury Department general licenses permitting sanctioned operations, ban new licenses, and mandate sanctions against Russia's energy sector. Meeks argues the deal would fund Russia's war in Ukraine. The agreement, announced October 9 following a Trump-Putin call, allowed temporary diesel imports until April 2027. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the arrangement, and a group of bipartisan senators has already urged Trump to reverse the decision.
