Russia says 600 drones targeted Moscow during Africa summit
More than 600 drones were launched toward the Moscow region on Thursday morning, the second day of the Russia-Africa summit, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. Most were neutralized by air defenses. The Kremlin condemned the Ukrainian drone attacks, with spokesman Dmitri Peskov calling it "very strange" for Kyiv to strike Moscow during the summit hosting 22 African leaders. Sobyanin reported 613 drones targeted the region, with 231 destroyed near the capital. Temporary flight restrictions were imposed at three Moscow airports, with two flights from Turkey forced to turn back. The attacks come as Russia and Ukraine prepare for US-mediated peace talks in November, following an escalation in drone and missile strikes.
