Ceasefire holds in Oleschky as evacuation of civilians set for Saturday

spiegel.de (German) —

The ceasefire in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian frontline city of Oleschky, in effect since Tuesday, is holding, and preparations are underway for a humanitarian evacuation of civilians this Saturday. Ukrainian and Russian human rights officials confirmed the truce has held for 54 hours without violations. A safe corridor has been cleared of mines, and humanitarian aid supplies are being prepared for delivery to the city on Friday. An estimated 1,500 to 2,000 people, including dozens of children, remain in the city, which faced a looming famine. The ceasefire, mediated by US First Lady Melania Trump and supported by Pope Leo XIV, is set to last until Sunday evening.
