Oleshky now has more Russian occupiers than residents, Ukrainian soldier says
Ukrainian serviceman and political scientist Volodymyr Molchanov stated that Russian occupiers in Oleshky now outnumber the city's remaining residents, with an estimated 2,000 people left in the town and up to 1,000 in nearby villages. Molchanov said the occupiers are stationed in abandoned apartments and high-rises, as well as along Chaika River streets near Kherson, with buildings half-destroyed mostly by Ukrainian fire targeting Russian positions. He suggested remaining civilians may refuse evacuation despite harsh conditions, potentially serving as human shields. A ceasefire in Oleshky began October 27 following a U.S.-brokered deal involving Melania Trump, with humanitarian missions underway and demining of civilian routes in progress. The truce is set to last until November 1, with no incidents reported in the first 30 hours.
