Russia locks down Moscow after massive Ukrainian drone attack
Russia imposed emergency lockdowns and closed Moscow's airspace after what it called a massive Ukrainian drone attack overnight, claiming to have downed 1,214 UAVs across the country, the war's largest reported interception tally. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 613 drones targeted the capital region, with flights grounded or diverted at major airports. Explosions were reported near Naro-Fominsk, and a strike hit an industrial complex in Bashkortostan, while interceptions occurred across 19 regions. Ukraine also reported shooting down two Russian cruise missiles with a US-supplied Hawk system. The attacks aim to cripple Russia's military infrastructure, while Russia has retaliated with strikes on Ukrainian energy grids and cities, complicating US-led peace efforts.
