Zelenskyy and Trump to meet in New York as US pushes Russia-Ukraine peace talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to meet US President Donald Trump in New York on Tuesday during the United Nations General Assembly, as Washington seeks to revive peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. US-led efforts to resume direct negotiations have stalled, while both sides have escalated long-range attacks. Trump said Russia lost control of parts of its oil industry after Ukrainian strikes, and raised the possibility of Ukraine halting attacks on Russian refineries without making it a demand. The meeting follows a US approval of a potential $2.68 billion air-defence package for Ukraine, pending congressional review. The war has entered its fifth year with no broad ceasefire, and Washington is also managing the wider conflict involving Iran.
