US Treasury chief hails 'very successful' US-China talks on trade and AI

The all-day talks with Vice Premier He Lifeng, including US trade official Jamieson Greer, lasted about eight hours in New York and set the stage for possible agreements before President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping meet Thursday in Washington. Bessent said the proposed mechanism would address security threats and communication on AI incidents. Working-level meetings may continue into Monday, and previous negotiations saw China pledge purchases of US agriculture goods. Both sides are also seeking to ease tensions on trade, technology, and critical minerals vital for US manufacturers.
