AI Takes Center Stage as World Leaders Meet at UN in New York
Nearly 130 world leaders are gathering in New York this week for the UN General Assembly's 81st session, with AI development emerging as a central concern amid global crises. The rapid pace of AI advancement, lack of industry control, and many unknowns have pushed the issue to the forefront of global worries. UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who departs at year's end, wrote on X that humanity "cannot give up the fight for a better world for all." Alongside the main meeting, bilateral talks are underway, including US President Donald Trump meeting leaders from France, Britain, and Ukraine. China's Xi Jinping will see Trump in Washington instead, while Russia's Putin and India's Modi are absent. Sweden's delegation is led by Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard.
