Vance expects significant progress from Trump-Zelenskyy New York meeting

US Vice President JD Vance called the Russia-Ukraine war the most complex international conflict Washington is involved in, expecting significant progress from President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy's New York meeting. The leaders will meet face-to-face on September 22 or 23. Vance said in a media comment he was confident significant progress would be achieved, adding the problem was hard to solve but would eventually be resolved, calling it only a matter of time. Zelenskyy has already traveled to the United States for the UN General Assembly's high-level week, with talks scheduled in New York focusing on diplomatic tracks, energy security, restoring food exports, and protecting critical infrastructure. The agenda also includes air defense systems and a winter defense aid package for Ukraine. Zelenskyy may meet French President Emmanuel Macron before talks with Trump, who is scheduled to meet the US president in New York on September ​21. The two presidents spoke by phone on September ​20, agreeing to meet soon, with Zelenskyy saying the meeting could change much given obvious diplomatic dynamics. Trump recently called the war a disgrace, urging an end due to thousands of monthly deaths.
