Iran's UNGA Delegation Faces Tight Curbs in New York

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in New York on Tuesday for the UN General Assembly, facing tight US-imposed restrictions amid escalating Washington-Tehran tensions and President Trump's warnings of "very big things." The State Department approved visas on September 17, but the delegation is smaller than in 2025 and barred from purchasing luxury goods under sanctions policy. Travel is limited strictly to routes between their hotel, the Millennium Hilton, and UN headquarters. The visit is Araghchi's first to the US since the US-Israel war with Iran began in February, which killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has attended UNGA previously, including under President Rouhani in 2015.
