Iran sets conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz and talks

Iran announced Sunday it has communicated conditions to the United States for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for the global economy and a key point of contention in the Middle East war. Chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that returning to pre-negotiation conditions and reopening the strait is impossible until US commitments are met. Iran has blocked traffic through the Strait of Hormuz since the conflict began, a waterway that previously carried 20% of the world's oil and gas. The US, which initiated the war in late February with a joint attack with Israel, maintains a blockade on Iranian ports. Iran's conditions include ending the war on all fronts, unfreezing its assets, and lifting the naval blockade. The conditions were transmitted via Qatar as mediator, according to General Mohsen Rezaei. Iran's Foreign Ministry also announced that Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi would travel to Tehran on Sunday.
