Iran and US Trade Threats as Houthi Attacks Escalate Regional Tensions

Iran and the United States exchanged new threats on Sunday, with President Donald Trump saying Iran faces economic failure or the elimination of its leadership without a deal, while Iran's military vowed a strong response to any new attack. The conflict remains deadlocked with no signs of concessions, even as the global energy crisis worsens and Iran's economy deteriorates. Trump said he is ready to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is expected in New York this week for UN General Assembly meetings. Iran's military said any new attack would target American bases and interests continuously. Yemen's Houthi rebels, allied with Iran, launched missile and drone attacks on Riyadh after military gains, controlling the Bab al-Mandab strait and nearly isolating Gulf energy exports. A June ceasefire collapsed in July, and Iran reiterated it will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until its conditions are met.
