China confirms Xi Jinping's US visit set for September 23-25

China has confirmed that President Xi Jinping will make a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25, at the invitation of his US counterpart, Donald Trump, a trip already announced by Washington. The confirmation was released in a brief note by the official Xinhua news agency, which did not immediately provide further details about the Chinese head of state's agenda. The visit will occur days after negotiations in New York between US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, and is expected to address issues such as the war in Iran, artificial intelligence, trade disputes, and Taiwan. According to the agenda announced by Washington, Xi will arrive in the US on Wednesday and will be received the following day, along with his wife Peng Liyuan, by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House. A welcome ceremony, a meeting between the two leaders, and a state dinner are planned. This will be the second meeting between Xi and Trump this year, following the US President's visit to Beijing in May. The two countries have maintained a truce in their trade war since October 2025, which expires on November 10.
