Macron to meet Trump in New York on UN General Assembly sidelines
French President Emmanuel Macron will meet US President Donald Trump on Monday in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, following talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Saint Pierre and Miquelon. The leaders are expected to discuss wars in Iran and Ukraine and the Middle East conflict. France is convening a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine and focusing on Black Sea food security and grain exports. Both Macron and Trump will also hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Macron and Carney announced closer ties on Sunday, with Macron emphasizing European sovereignty and Carney welcoming a proposal for Canada to become the EU's first "associate member." Trump's remarks about making Canada the 51st US state have been rejected by Ottawa, and Macron reaffirmed Saint Pierre and Miquelon would remain French.
