Zelensky and Trump agree to meet in New York

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that he and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to meet in New York during a phone call, saying the meeting "could change a lot" regarding peace efforts in Ukraine. Zelensky thanked Trump for the recent Kyiv visit by his special envoys, Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and for signing the "Lindsey Graham law" enabling stronger sanctions on Russia. He said Kyiv has ideas on de-escalation and fundamental security issues, working with the American team on serious steps. The Ukrainian leader did not specify the meeting date, and Trump had not publicly confirmed the plan. Zelensky met Witkoff and Kushner in Kyiv on September 6, following their three-hour Kremlin talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 5.
