Xi Jinping to Make State Visit to the US from September 23-25

China has confirmed President Xi Jinping will make a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25, following an invitation from President Donald Trump. The visit marks the second summit between the leaders of the world's two largest economies in 2026, following Trump's trip to Beijing in May, and their third meeting since Trump returned to office in January 2025. Talks will cover trade, tariffs, artificial intelligence, wars involving Iran and Ukraine, and Taiwan. The trip was widely expected but unconfirmed until Monday, following standard Chinese practice. The two leaders agreed on a fragile truce in October 2025 after months of trade war, strengthened at the May summit, though a lasting deal remains elusive. Chinese exports to the U.S. rose 34.4% year-on-year in August.
