OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to address UN Security Council on AI risks
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will brief the UN Security Council on Wednesday in New York about artificial intelligence and international security, an OpenAI spokesperson confirmed on Friday. The meeting, convened by France and chaired by French Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, will focus on risks of AI misuse and the need for international coordination and shared safety standards. Altman's remarks will also cover steps OpenAI is taking to ensure global benefits. The Security Council first addressed AI risks in 2023, with China warning against a "runaway horse" and the US cautioning on repression. Altman has long warned of AI dangers, calling superhuman machine intelligence in 2015 "the greatest threat to humanity."
