Trump won't interfere in Brazil election dispute

spiegel.de (German) —

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday he will not interfere in the dispute over Brazil's presidential election, after defeated candidate Flávio Bolsonaro fled to the United States and declared himself the country's leader. Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews he would not comment on Bolsonaro's claim, noting the US had allowed his entry, but called the election "very strange." Trump had earlier Monday questioned the result, calling it "manipulated." Lula da Silva won Sunday's runoff with 51.8 percent of votes to Bolsonaro's 48.2 percent. Bolsonaro flew to Florida despite a judicial travel ban, using his Italian citizenship after his passport was invalidated, and vowed to lead opposition from the US.
