Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro claims presidency after fleeing to Miami
Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro declared himself the "authentic president-elect" of Brazil on Wednesday, hours after arriving in the United States, denouncing political persecution and electoral fraud in a statement. The son of former President Jair Bolsonaro lost the October 25 runoff to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva by about 4.4 million votes. Without presenting evidence, he alleged fraud and claimed a Supreme Court decision extending voting hours enabled Lula's victory, though electoral authorities recorded only 34,000 votes after 5 p.m. Bolsonaro entered Argentina with an Italian passport and flew to Miami via Guayaquil. He thanked Javier Milei and Donald Trump, and announced he will lead the opposition from Miami, saying he will say what others in Brazil cannot.
