Brazilian court orders probe into alleged foreign funding for Bolsonaro campaign
Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Flávio Dino ordered the Federal Police on Tuesday to open an inquiry into allegations of foreign financing for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's presidential campaign and social media algorithm manipulation. The senator denies any wrongdoing. The investigation will examine suspected funding involving Rockbridge Network, allegedly brokered by businessmen Tallis Gomes and Pedro Sang. Brazilian law prohibits political parties from receiving foreign financial resources. Police will also investigate paid content from foreign-based profiles favoring Bolsonaro without identifying the payer or amounts. Dino cited "intensifying signs of foreign interference" in the electoral process, emphasizing constitutional duties to protect democracy and national sovereignty. The inquiry will also examine potential links to Brazilian rare earth and critical minerals interests, plus alleged algorithmic manipulation by internet companies.
