Flavio Bolsonaro: From presidential hopeful to exile in Florida
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, heir to the country's far-right political dynasty, has self-exiled to the United States following his shock defeat to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Sunday's presidential run-off election. Bolsonaro, who won the first-round vote but lost the runoff 48 percent to 52 percent, refused to concede and vowed to challenge the result in court. He arrived in Florida on Wednesday with his wife and two daughters, after a covert exit via Argentina and Ecuador. The 45-year-old senator, who campaigned as a more moderate version of his father Jair Bolsonaro, secured nearly 60 million votes despite the loss. He faces corruption investigations and has been accused of ties to Rio de Janeiro militias, allegations he denies.
