Brazil's Bolsonaro Party Recognizes Lula's 2026 Election Victory
Brazil's Liberal Party (PL), led by Flavio Bolsonaro, has officially recognized Lula's victory in the 2026 presidential election, as proclaimed by the Superior Electoral Court, while calling for a balanced political debate to address raised questions. The PL statement, signed by party president Valdemar Costa Neto, acknowledged Bolsonaro won the first round by 2.2 million votes but lost the runoff amid strong electoral pressures. The party highlighted its historic congressional results, including 121 federal deputies and 29 senators, pledging continued independent action in defending democracy. Other parties supporting Bolsonaro, including Podemos, Republicanos, and Uniao Brasil, had already recognized Lula's win on Monday. Meanwhile, Brazilian federal police are investigating whether Bolsonaro attempted to flee to Argentina and the United States, though his campaign coordinator denied the reports.
