Flávio Bolsonaro cites exiles and Venezuelan opposition to justify US stay
Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro released a letter from the United States on Wednesday, citing historical figures and Venezuelan opposition leaders to justify his political activities abroad after leaving Brazil. Bolsonaro mentioned Rui Barbosa, Charles de Gaulle, José Martí, and Venezuelan opposition figures Juan Guaidó, Edmundo González Urrutia, and María Corina Machado as examples of leaders who fought authoritarian governments from exile. He left Brazil following a Supreme Court order to surrender his passports, days after losing the presidential election to President Lula. In the letter, Bolsonaro declared he will lead the Brazilian opposition from the US, stating "I will be the voice and free leadership of our nation." He arrived in the US after passing through Argentina and Ecuador.
