Flávio Bolsonaro flees Brazil for US after election loss
Far-right Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has reportedly fled Brazil for the United States after losing Sunday's presidential election to incumbent leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He is said to be seeking political asylum in Florida. According to news site Metrópoles, citing family sources, Bolsonaro's plane was en route to the US and expected to land in Florida on Tuesday afternoon, with the Trump administration reportedly informed. The senator missed a Tuesday morning deadline to surrender his passport to federal police, and lawmakers from Lula's Workers' Party have requested his arrest and placement on Interpol's red list. Bolsonaro, who holds Italian citizenship, is under investigation for alleged money laundering involving betting firms. His father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, is under house arrest for an attempted coup, while one brother is in US exile and another's whereabouts are unknown.
