Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro flees to US after defying court order
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro has fled to the United States after defying a Supreme Court order to surrender his passport, following his defeat in Sunday's presidential election runoff against incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The son of former President Jair Bolsonaro was given 24 hours on Monday to hand over his passport as part of a money laundering investigation, which he denies. The deadline has since expired, leading to the cancellation of the documents, and he is reportedly seeking political asylum in Florida. The escape was reportedly organized by a lawyer close to the Bolsonaro clan, and the Trump administration has been informed. His father, Jair Bolsonaro, also fled to the US after his 2022 defeat before returning and being sentenced to 27 years in prison for plotting a coup.
