Democrats Condemn Trump's Visa Grant to Bolsonaro Senator
The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, led by Democrats, condemned the Trump administration's decision to grant a visa to Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, contrasting it with U.S. migration policy for people fleeing conflict. The committee posted on X that no asylum is given to those fleeing war in Sudan or Haiti, yet Secretary of State Marco Rubio is "rolling out the red carpet" for Bolsonaro. Democratic lawmaker Joaquin Castro said losing an election is not grounds for asylum, noting Flávio faces investigation in Brazil for alleged corruption and money laundering. Flávio arrived in Miami on Wednesday with his family after crossing into Argentina, violating a Supreme Court order to surrender his passports. He is under investigation for money laundering, which he denies, and had claimed he would stay in Brazil to organize opposition to President Lula's reelection.
