Flavio Bolsonaro and family arrive in Miami after Trump grants Brazil exit
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro and his family arrived in Miami on Wednesday after the U.S. granted them entry visas, following his refusal to surrender his passports per a Brazilian Supreme Court order tied to a money-laundering investigation he denies. Bolsonaro, who lost Sunday’s presidential election to incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, traveled secretly via northern Argentina and Guayaquil, Ecuador, before flying to Miami on a private jet. His departure threatens to deepen a Brazil-U.S. rift, with Lula accusing Washington of colluding with the Bolsonaro family. President Trump said Wednesday he approved of Bolsonaro’s arrival, citing alleged judicial persecution of his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to 27 years for plotting a coup. Flavio Bolsonaro, whose Senate term ends in February, had denied plans to flee.
