Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro Defies Court Order, Flees to Miami
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro arrived in Miami on Tuesday night, defying a Supreme Court order from Justice Alexandre de Moraes that prohibited him from leaving the country and required him to surrender his passports within 24 hours. He traveled via Argentina with alleged support from political allies. The senator used a private jet to reach Puerto Iguazu, Argentina, in the Triple Frontier region, before continuing to the United States, where his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro received him. The restrictive measures, issued Monday, also barred contact with lawyer Willer Tomaz amid a Federal Police investigation into suspected money laundering and flight risk. The court action followed an October 23 statement by Eduardo suggesting his brother should leave Brazil if Lula won the election, confirmed by the TSE on October 25. This adds to a history of rulings against the Bolsonaro family, including Jair Bolsonaro's imprisonment and Eduardo's arrest warrant, with PT deputies now requesting Flavio's preventive detention.
